Alejandro Fernández Muñoz

Area Manager Office of the Director-General

Third of the XXVIII Class of the Superior Corps of ICT of the Spanish State Administration, Alejandro holds a B.Sc. in Physics from Complutense University of Madrid, a M.Res. in Nanophysics from Pompeu Fabra University and a M.Sc. in Innovation Economics and Management from Autónoma University of Madrid. As Head of Area in the Office of the Director-General for Digital Transformation of the Justice Administration, Alejandro coordinates process optimization initiatives, acts as liaison for international affairs of the DG and is responsible for several computer systems of the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Parliamentary Relations of Spain.

The DG for Digital Transformation of the Justice Administration, part of the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Parliamentary Relations of Spain, provides the most advanced technological solutions for a modern, people-centred and efficient justice system. With over 25 thousand internal users and more than 300 thousand external ones, the DG offers more than 70 solutions and 20 services non-stop, over 25 RPA automations and 10 AI initiatives.



Akira Ito

Senior Research Manager

Akira Ito is a senior research manager with extensive experience in network technologies and data exchange platform. Following his entry into Fujitsu, he dedicated himself to exploring the potential of information-centric networks and inter-enterprise data distribution. His research culminated in the development and commercialization of “Data e-TRUST”, pioneering solutions that leverage blockchain technology to enable secure and efficient data utilization. Since June 2023, he has held his current position, where he spearheads the development of the “Web3 Acceleration Platform,” which aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem supported by secure and reliable data distribution and utilization technologies.

Alberto P. Martí

VP of Open Source Innovation Chair of the Industry Facilitation Group @ IPCEI Cloud

Alberto has developed most of his career in Spain and in the UK, both in Tech and in Higher Education. As VP of Open Source Innovation at OpenNebula Systems, he deals with strategic collaborations with cloud and edge providers, other open source initiatives, and CIOs from relevant vendors. He is one of the initial promoters of the SovereignEdge.EU initiative, coordinating involvement in the Horizon Europe programme and in other joint R&D activities based on European open source technologies for the cloud-edge continuum. In March 2024, Alberto was elected Chair of the Industry Facilitation Group of the new €3B IPCEI Cloud.


OpenNebula Systems

First released in 2008, OpenNebula has become the only European open source technology for cloud-edge orchestration, able to manage both Virtual Machines and Kubernetes clusters and offering a vendor-neutral alternative to VMware and OpenStack. Born in Madrid (Spain) in 2010, OpenNebula Systems provides professional support around OpenNebula and helps organizations from many different sectors to build their private, public, and hybrid clouds. OpenNebula Systems plays a key role in strengthening Europe’s technological sovereignty, chairing the Cloud/Edge Working Group of the “European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud” and also the Industry Facilitation Group of the new €3B IPCEI Cloud.



Closing remarks

Eu-LISA

The European Union Agency for the Operational Management of Large-Scale IT Systems in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice (eu-LISA) was established to provide a long-term solution for the operational management of large-scale IT systems. The Agency currently manages Eurodac, the Schengen Information System (SIS) and the Visa Information System (VIS). Further to these, eu-LISA is developing the Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information Authorisation System (ETIAS). These systems and the pre-existing ones are being built/adapted to ensure Interoperability – improved access to information stored in EU information systems and identity management at an EU level. In addition, the Agency’s portfolio has been enlarged within the justice domain: with the development of the European Criminal Records Information System – Third-Country Nationals (ECRIS-TCN), the management of e-CODEX and the development of the Collaboration Platform for Joint Investigation Teams (JITs).
